The Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop offers a variety of gently used items, with all proceeds supporting the Friends of Brewster Seniors programs. We provide quality, reusable clothing and merchandise at a minimal price to the general public as a means of funding our Friends’ activities and some programs of the Council on Aging when requested.

Patrons can find a plethora of household goods and clothing at the thrift shop such as:

  • Home Furnishings: Unique, small, wooden furniture pieces.
  • Clothing: Affordable, gently used clothing and accessories for men and women. This includes footwear and hats.
  • Books: A wide selection of current books, including fiction and non-fiction bestsellers as well as cookbooks and DIY’s.
  • Home Goods: Kitchenware, decorations, artwork, and other household items are always in demand and available.
  • Collectibles: Vintage and collectible items for enthusiasts, such as records, china patterns, Waterford and Belleek items, and crystal stemware.
  • Seasonal Items: both clothing and household goods with seasonal themes are available before the appropriate holiday.

Donation Information

Donors may drop off clean, current, and complete men’s and women’s clothing daily from 11 AM – 2 PM at our backdoor.  What do we mean by clean, current, and complete? Items should be stain-free and freshly washed, in a style that someone else might wear now, and have all their buttons and a working zipper.

Spring/Summer wear for both men and women is accepted from Mid-February until Mid-August, while Fall/Winter wear is accepted from Mid-August to Mid-February. The shop is famous for its seasonal turnover of clothing and household décor.  Seasonal household items are accepted between 11-2 daily.  Clean, current books are accepted anytime!

Volunteer Opportunities

It’s easy to volunteer at the shop and lots of fun, too!  Anyone interested should stop in during regular business hours and pick up a volunteer packet.  Once completed, it should be returned and an interview with shop management will be arranged.  Volunteers take on a variety of tasks, including being a cashier, dressing mannequins, pricing items, changing displays, and yes, some of the cleaning that needs to be done to keep our shop fresh. Volunteers work an established three-hour shift, or they may choose to be a substitute. All volunteers of any age are welcome.
