The Friends of Brewster Seniors (the Friends) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community through advocacy, support, and enriching activities.

Each year, the Friends, and the Council on Aging, each seek an extraordinary volunteer to honor at a luncheon meant to thank all volunteers from both groups. There are many ways people can volunteer for the Friends, including working at Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop, being a member of the Board or committee, or helping with one of the many events sponsored by the Friends. The volunteer opportunities at the COA are even more extensive.

The Friends 2024 Volunteer of the Year is Jane Hester, our long-term Treasurer and thrift shop volunteer. Jane has been a vital part of the Board serving as Treasurer since 2017. She has diligently handled all aspect of our finances – bill payments and deposits, working with our accountant on filing tax returns, working on the many forms necessary to change our name and ensuring that the sales taxes collected at the Thrift Shop are paid to the state in a timely manner.

Jane is a true New Englander, having spent time in Connecticut, Boston and Chatham prior to moving to Brewster. In addition to helping out the Friends whenever and however she can, Jane loves to walk, garden and cook. She also enjoys live theatre, bocce and Qigong. Jane is truly a renaissance woman and we’re proud to have her on our board.
