The Friends of Brewster Seniors (the Friends) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community through advocacy, support, and enriching activities.
Each year, the Friends, and the Council on Aging, each seek an extraordinary volunteer to honor at a luncheon meant to thank all volunteers from both groups. There are many ways people can volunteer for the Friends, including working at Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop, being a member of the Board or committee, or helping with one of the many events sponsored by the Friends. The volunteer opportunities at the COA are even more extensive. This year, the Friends are honoring two Volunteers of the Year!
One of the Friends 2025 Volunteers of the Year is Eunice Terrenzi, a long-term volunteer at Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop, so long, in fact, that she started working at the shop when it was located behind Town Hall many years ago. Eunice faithfully shows up every Wednesday morning to greet and assist customers as well as field phone calls. She’s also one of our best customers; she never leaves the shop without a purchase in her hands!
Eunice, a soon to be centenarian, still loves to play Mahjong and was line dancing until just a few years ago. Thank you, Eunice, for all the time you dedicate to the thrift shop and for your always sweet attitude!

Our second Friends 2025 Volunteer of the Year is Ethel Whitten, another long-term thrift shop volunteer. Ethel works on Thursday afternoon and virtually any time she’s asked to fill an additional shift. What a trooper! Ethel, too, always has a welcoming smile for our customers, which makes shopping much more pleasant!
Ethel has lived in Brewster for quite a while and been a Friend forever. When she isn’t working at the shop, she likes to read, garden and travel. Thank you, Ethel, for all the time you’ve dedicated to the Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop and your very welcoming ways!
